Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong told ICE agents to “quit their shitty ass job” just days ahead of their Super Bowl opening ceremony show.

The band will be playing during the pre-game festivities in their Bay Area hometown on Sunday night (February 8) at Levi’s Stadium, with their set to include a medley of their best-known songs while past Super Bowl MVPs parade on the field.

To warm up for the show, Green Day played a smaller show at San Francisco’s Pier 29 on Friday night (February 6), which saw them switch the lyrics to set opener ‘American Idiot’ to “I’m not part of a MAGA agenda”.

Later in the show, Armstrong made a direct address to ICE agents that were potentially in attendance at the concert, and who will reportedly also be present at the Super Bowl and its Bad Bunny-headlined halftime show.

“Quit your shitty ass job,” Armstrong told them. “Quit that shitty job you have. Because when this is over, and it will be over at some point in time, Kristi Noem, Stephen Miller, JD Vance, Donald Trump – they’re gonna drop you like a bad fucking habit. Come on to this side of the line.”

Last month, Green Day once again took aim at Miller, the US Homeland Security Advisor, at a show in Los Angeles, while standing up for the people of Minneapolis amid the protests over the ICE presence in the city and the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by ICE agents.

Introducing ‘Holiday’, he said: “This song is anti-fascism. This song is anti-war. We stand up for our brothers and sisters in Minnesota… Ladies and gentlemen, Stephen Miller now has the floor.”

They are longstanding critics of the Trump administration, slamming the President and Elon Musk at Download Festival, where they asked the crowd to call Trump a “fat bastard”. As far back as 2016, they were leading chants of “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA”, and in 2024, they strongly advocated for Democrat candidate Kamala Harris.

Trump has slated Green Day and Bad Bunny’s inclusion at this weekend’s Super Bowl, calling them a “terrible choice” that only “sows hatred”. He also confirmed he would not be attending the event, despite having done so last year.

Bad Bunny in particular has come under personal attack from the MAGA movement since being announced as the halftime show headliner, with Trump calling that decision “crazy” and claiming that he had “never heard of” the rapper.

Nevertheless, the Puerto Rican superstar has promised that “the world will dance” during his halftime show, while NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has defended his selection as being “carefully thought through”.

Turning Point USA – which was founded by the late Charlie Kirk –have announced plans for an ‘All American Halftime Show’, which will be held at the same time and date as the Bad Bunny’s performance, with Kid Rock headlining.
