It may be a little over four weeks away, but why not use the transfer window as a welcome distraction from, well, everything else. Crystal Palace captain and defender Marc Guehi has been speculated as Liverpool’s top target in the winter window, as the deal failed to be finalized before the summer window shut, much to the appeared chagrin of nearly everyone involved.
Guehi, to his credit, has remained collected about the failed move, even to this day. He actually scored on Sunday’s match against Fulham, helping Palace to a 2-1 win and fourth place on the Premier League table. As the opening date of the winter transfer window opens, the speculation that Liverpool will try to sign the defender once again has started to escalate once again. Sky Sports spoke with Guehi about the possibility of a January move in a rare interview, and the defender once again appeared unfazed by the idea.

Guehi continued to insist that the decision to stay at Crystal Palace was a mutual one, despite reports that he had completed a medical with Liverpool and terms agreed. From all appearances, the deal was done until the very last minute when Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish backed out. At the time, Parish said that it was “a difficult decision” and that “the better decision was to keep Marc.” Marc himself refuted this, saying that it was an easy decision to stay.
“I think everyone has this perception and idea that it was difficult,” Guehi said.
“It actually wasn’t difficult. It wasn’t difficult at all because when you’re focused on what’s the most important thing it becomes easy.”

Guehi’s contract with Crystal Palace is set to expire at the end of this season, and though it might be a better business decision to secure his services for free, Liverpool may not have that luxury if we want any more hope of getting out of the rut we’ve found ourselves in.
We can only hope that whatever god is overseeing us will maybe give a little pity to us suffering Liverpool fans and throw us a bone, or in this case a defender that is devoted to him.
