State Rep. James Talarico is leading Rep. Jasmine Crockett in Texas' Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate, according to a new poll.

The survey, conducted by Emerson College Polling and Nexstar Media, showed Talarico getting 47% of the support, compared to Crockett's 38%. 15% are still not sure of who they will vote for, and less than 1% said they would support Ahmad Hassan.

The poll was conducted Between January 10 and 12 among 413 likely voters in the Democratic primary. The margin of error is +/- 4.8%.

Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, highlighted that "Talarico has built momentum among Hispanic (59%) and white (57%) voters, while a majority of Black Democratic primary voters (80%) support Crockett."

Perhaps seeking to capitalize on the advantage, Talarico launched an ad in Spanish titled "¡Vale la pena!" (It's worth it!) "Since the first day of this campaign, I've pledged to be a Senator that represents all 31 million Texans, including the nearly 8 million Texans that speak Spanish," he said about the campaign.

The survey also showed that Talarico was supported by more than half of all men polled (52% compared to Crockett's 30%), while women were almost evenly split: 44% for Talarico and 43% for Crockett.

Looking at hypothetical matchups in a general election, Talarico is almost within the margin of error behind Sen. John Cornyn, trailing 47% to 44% with 9% undecided. He is tied with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton at 46% with 9% undecided. The scenario is similar for Crockett: she trails Cornyn 43% to 48% and is also tied at 46% with Paxton.

Elsewhere in the poll, voters noted that the economy remains as the top issue at 28%, two points below an August poll. It is "followed by threats to democracy at 17% (+2), immigration at 14% (-7), healthcare at 9% (+1), and housing affordability at 8% (+3).
