Gettting Hytale Iron is the first step up in terms of crafting and upgrading your gear. While you'll need copper at the start to make some vital workbenches as well as moving on from stone, it's iron you'll want after that point to make better tools, weapons and armor. Once you're ready to get it there are a few options ahead of you to help you find it, so let's take a look at how you get iron in Hytale.
Hytale Iron locations
Iron can be found in and around Emerald Wilds, the starting area of the game. The best way is to dig for it, where you'll eventually either find some ore underground, or find a cavern you can then explore to get iron ore from the walls and ceilings. You're looking out for grey chunks with a brown mottling. In the dark you'll see a slight gleam pass across the face of it occasionally. You can also find it sticking out of hillsides and rocks on the surface sometimes, but that's more a lucky find than something to look out for. However, in the opening Emerald Wilds areas you initially explore you are far more likely to find Hytale Copper overall. That makes sense as you initially need it for some crafting basics like the Armorer's Workbench or Blacksmith's Anvil before you can build certain things. So if you're having trouble finding Iron in Hytale, or enough of it, you can also head to the Howling Sands area, the second zone in the game - just look for the sandy part of the map to find it:
The Howling Sands world zone contains plenty of iron, as well as Thorium, the next ore up the crafting ladder. Again, you mainly want to dig and find Iron underground but you can also let the local mobs do the hard work for you by looking out for mine outposts on the surface and using those to access pre-mined caves. You will face a bit of a fight against a few enemies to clear it out, so make sure you've got enough gear and supplies for a fight, including plenty of Hytale Repair kits. Obviously the main benefit once you have iron in Hytale is that you can step up a level in terms of weapons, armor and tools so you can head out the tougher areas in search of the ores you'll need to progress even further.
