This time last year, Hyperkin announced it was producing a series of stunning Nintendo Switch peripherals based on the immensely popular anime, Frieren Beyond Journey's End. Yet, one year on, while the anime has returned for season two, the accessories are still nowhere to be found.
The accessories were originally revealed on the official Hyperkin X (Twitter) page in January 2025 and showcased a pair of stunning Nintendo Switch controllers and cases that were draped in official art of everyone's favorite white-haired elf mage. Despite the original Switch being toward the end of its lifespan by the time they were unveiled, I was thrilled to hopefully one day take after Himmel himself and show my unbridled love for Frieren via my Ninty handheld, but they've still yet to appear on the physical and online shelves, and the original social media post has long disappeared.
Checking the social media page for this collab now results in a "this page doesn't exist" error on X (Twitter), which is disappointing. Through some minimal sleuthing, I discovered that Twitter user dischapo also spotted the missing post and asked an official Hyperkin page, "What happend to the Frieren controller you guys announced at CES? Tweet is gone" on February 13, 2025.

They were met with a reply from the account of the Chief Creative Marketing Officer at Hyperkin Inc, stating that "More information will be coming out soon for the Frieren Pixel Art," but it's been all quiet on Hyperkin's part ever since - not something Frieren fans like myself want to hear. The Frieren x Hyperkin collab was the result of a partnership between the accessories manufacturer and Crunchyroll, the popular anime streaming app where the entire first season and first few episodes of the brand-new second season of Frieren are available to stream. It was thought to be the first in a long line of future anime accessories, which would be an easy feat with the Crunchyroll license, as the app hosts everything from Frieren to Chainsaw Man and the Apothecary Diaries. At the time of the unveiling, there were no further details shared despite the fact that they were coming at a "later date." Instead, the Hyperkin social media team mostly let the images speak for themselves, which was easy to do when they picked particularly gorgeous art to represent the anime series. The set of controllers, which appeared to be Frieren re-kins of the Hyperkin Pixel Art controllers, had pale green-colored chassis that matched perfectly with the white, green, and light purple hues of the art.
In one, Frieren can be seen suspended in the air about to conjure a spell, and in the other, she's frolicking amongst some flowers. If these were Pixel Art pad re-skins, the controllers would have been equipped with Bluetooth and compatible with the Switch, Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android devices. It's this same art that's plastered over the Switch cases, which I was most excited about one day owning - at least, before the Nintendo Switch 2 came along.
In fact, it's the existence of the new Switch 2 that has me contemplating if that's why we have yet to see these Frieren accessories hit the physical and online shelves. These were announced 5 months before the new handheld came on the scene. Hyperkin and Crunchyroll would likely have preferred to go back to the drawing board to ensure wider compatibility.
If that's what's taking so long, I'm entirely okay with that. I'd love to own some official Frieren Switch 2 accessories, even if there's no game to go along with them. I've reached out to Hyperkin's PR team to see if that's the case or whether or not these anime accessories are still in the pipeline. If I ever get a reply, I'll be sure to update this report for all you fellow Frieren-obsessed Switch owners.

Rosalie NewcombeSocial Links NavigationHardware EditorEver since I first held a NES controller in my hand I've been obsessed with gaming, and the hardware it runs on. I could hook up a NES and SNES to a telly, without instructions, before I could walk. Even now, nothing is more exciting then taking a console, or handheld, out the box for the first time and setting it up. This obsession transformed into a love of games and game music, which lead to my music degree and dream of becoming the Scottish Nobuo Uematsu. After sharing my love of games through music, I began to share my love through words on sites like TechRadar and iMore. This lead to becoming a Hardware staff writer for PCGamesN, and later the Senior Tech Writer for Dexerto, covering all things Steam Deck, PlayStation and Nintendo. With that experience, I was able to level up as Hardware Editor for GamesRadar+, where I'm still just as Nintendo, PlayStation and gaming tech obsessed as ever.
