They said it couldn't be done, but Monster Hunter Wilds' Steam reviews are turning around following Capcom's latest performance patch.

Last year, Capcom confirmed that three more updates would be coming to Monster Hunter Wilds to address its performance issues. And when December's patch really did not impress and fans figured out there was a DLC-related bug affecting performance, all eyes were on the second patch to bring some hope back to the community. And despite many thinking it seemed impossible, Monster Hunter Wilds' latest PC performance patch has seemingly actually fixed the game.

However, others are praising it while acknowledging that it really should have always been like this, with one review reading "The performance should have been like this at launch, But better late than never. The game is much more enjoyable now that it runs well" while another user says the game is "Finally at a point where I can recommend the game to others." They add that they hope Capcom "prioritize performance for the expansion to avoid another PR nightmare like Wilds had for a year" – we can only hope.
