Don't expect Cyberpunk 2 to suddenly feature elaborate cinematic cutscenes or shift into third-person, as creative director Igor Sarzyński prefers the immersion of first-person cutscenes.

Over on Bluesky, Sarzyński posts some screenshots from the development of the first game's Phantom Liberty expansion, saying "gotta admit setting up cutscenes in this game would be extremely pleasant (coz everything looks mindblowingly amazing) but in the end I value our uninterrupted immersion more."

However, one user isn't entirely a fan, saying the choice to stick to first-person limited gamers who prefer third-person viewpoints, and that they disagree with the idea that experiencing a world from a character's point of view is crucial to immersion. Sarzyński explains that in his view, "when something is for everyone then it's for no one," while assuring that "it's OK to not vibe with our choices!"

Sarzyński also explains that the choice to make the game third person isn't exactly a simple task either, saying, "That simple 'choice' in terms of narrative / scene design and direction would add 75% scope." He adds that it's "not feasible."

Of course, as with almost everything, if you're playing on PC you can get around this. At the moment there's a work-in-progress third person mod for Cyberpunk 2077 that was first published back in January 2021 – less than a month after its original release, when the game was still somewhat of a flaming mess. So with a community on top of things like that, I wouldn't be shocked if the follow-up gets a mod of its own fairly soon after release.
