The film is an exploration of the life of Spielberg’s longtime composer and collaborator Williams, known for his work on Spielberg’s E.T., Jaws, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and Schindler’s List, among countless others.
It means that Spielberg has joined the elite ranks of competitive EGOT winners, having already won multiple Oscars and Emmys, as well as his 2022 Tony Award for Best Musical for producing A Strange Loop.
Other EGOTs include Elton John, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Whoopi Goldberg, Mel Brooks, Audrey Hepburn and John Gielgud.
RecommendedSpielberg was not on hand to pick up the Grammy, but the film’s director Laurent Bouzereau was, and he thanked Spielberg for helping to “tell the story of one of our greatest music voices ever”.
The film-maker is in line for another Oscar in a few weeks, as a producer on Chloe Zhao’s emotional drama Hamnet, which has been nominated for a number of Academy Awards. He has been highly complimentary about Zhao, saying: “I really believe the earth has a heartbeat. It’s a 24/7 seismic cycle, and all of us are connected to this heartbeat, which happens right under our feet. But Chloé Zhao is connected to it in a profound way because it’s where her art comes from.”
Williams is now 93 and has said multiple times in recent years that he plans to retire, but he returned for Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny in 2022, and in October, it was confirmed that he would be reuniting with Spielberg for his new film Disclosure Day.
