Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard pushed back in a letter shared on social media against lawmakers who questioned her presence at the Fulton County elections office in Georgia as the FBI executed a search warrant at the facility.

Describing it as a "court-authorized law enforcement action," the FBI searched the county's main elections office in what some local officials said was an effort to obtain ballots from the 2020 presidential election, which President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed was "stolen" from him.

Gabbard shared a letter on social media in response to comments from Democratic Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia and Rep. Jim Himes of Connecticut, who questioned her presence at the site after a photo taken by a Reuters photographer showed Gabbard at the facility.

"This complete Trump loyalist somehow popping up on an FBI raid? What the heck was she doing?" Warner, vice chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, said in a video posted on social media.

In a joint statement published in late January, Warner and Himes described Gabbard's involvement as "deeply concerning" and urged her to focus on other responsibilities.

"The Intelligence Community should be focused on foreign threats and, as you yourself have testified, when those intelligence authorities are turned inward the results can be devastating for Americans' privacy and civil liberties," the statement read.

In her letter, Gabbard said her responsibilities span more than a dozen areas, including oversight of the FBI's intelligence and counterintelligence divisions, as well as safeguarding the integrity of U.S. elections, which she described as a national security concern.

"Contrary to the blatantly false and slanderous accusations being made against me by Members of Congress and their friends in the propaganda media, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence has and will continue to take action under my statutory authorities to secure our nation and ensure the integrity of our elections," she added.

Gabbard said her presence at the elections office came at the explicit direction of the president and was well within her legal authority. "My presence was requested by the President and executed under my broad statutory authority to coordinate, integrate and analyze intelligence related to election security, including counterintelligence, foreign and other malign influence and cybersecurity," she wrote.

The development comes just days after President Trump, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, said individuals would soon be prosecuted for their role in what he called the "rigged" 2020 election.

As reported by Politico at the time, Trump did not specify who would be prosecuted or what charges they could face, and the Department of Justice did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Fulton County Commissioner Mo Ivory told the outlet that she learned upon arriving at the facility that the FBI was seeking ballots from the 2020 presidential election.

Another worker at the facility told local media the same account.

"The FBI agents are here to get the 2020 ballots," Fulton County Court Clerk Ché Alexander told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "They're all here — trucks, everything."
