Just as Sonic the Hedgehog eventually found his way onto Nintendo hardware, Master Chief is about to make the leap onto PlayStation with Halo: Campaign Evolved, a top-down remake of the classic FPS. Putting the face of Xbox on PS5 is a bold move, but it's one made with the idea of further unifying fans of the franchise, and ushering in a new era.
In an exclusive interview with GamesRadar+, two leads from Halo Studios (the renamed 343 Industries) explain exactly why it made sense to release this iteration of the iconic shooter on a Sony machine. "We hope to bring along the series veterans who have been with us for the past 25 years on the Xbox and PC platforms, and have them be able to play with this entirely new generation," Damon Conn, executive producer on Halo: Campaign Evolved, tells us.

He, rightly, notes that "the original is a masterpiece," and the team's goal isn't to make a replacement, but something that sits alongside Combat Evolved. There are some tweaks and quality-of-life improvements, like four-player cross-platform co-op, allowing people to enjoy the narrative together regardless of their system.
"Halo is really, you know, best played when we have a large, healthy community," Max Szlagor, creative director on Campaign Evolved, says. "We're able to honor the Halo legacy on PlayStation," Conn adds. "It's just paving the way to expand our Halo universe, that's how we see it."
Halo: Campaign Evolved comes almost five years since the last new entry, Halo Infinite, in 2021. In that time, Paramount's ill-fated Halo TV show is the only substantive release that we've seen, but there are apparently multiple games in the pipeline. If all goes well, there'll be plenty more Spartans ready to enjoy them after this comes out.
