Ahead of the sequel's final trailer dropping on Monday (March 9), Nintendo unveiled a new poster for the upcoming video game adaptation. It's a colorful, interstellar assault on the senses with a lot going on (we've come to expect no less from this franchise) – but if you zoom in to the right of Mario's giant foot, you'll see an exciting first look at deep-cut villain Wart. Yep, that's him, right next to Mouser and Birdo. Check it out below.

Known as 'Mamu' in Japan, Wart is a toad-like creature who leads the 8 bits gang and tries to conquer the dream world, Subcon. He attacks by spitting bubbles at his opponents. Having appeared as the main antagonist and final boss of Super Mario Bros. 2 (1988), he went on to appear in Super Mario Advance (2001) and was briefly seen again in a musical, much friendlier capacity in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.

Chris Pratt hints at "a couple more" new character surprises in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Mouser has been similarly absent in the series since his own stint in Super Mario Bros. 2 In short, the pair aren't exactly Yoshi or Donkey Kong, so we're definitely curious as to why they're now rocking up on the big screen! Fortunately we don't have much longer to wait to find out.
Starring the voice talents of Benny Safdie, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Charlie Day, and Pratt, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie sees Mario and Luigi travel to outer space to team-up with Princess Rosalina (Marvel's Brie Larson) and defeat Bowser's vengeful son, Bowser Jr.
It's heading to cinemas on April 3, 2026. For more, check out our picks of the best video game movies of all time or our guide to all the upcoming video game movies heading our way.
