One of the big questions about Prime Video's upcoming streaming series Spider-Noir has finally gotten a definitive answer. Showrunner Oren Uziel has now confirmed that it's not the same version of Spider-Man Noir who was introduced in animated form Into the Spider-Verse, saying the goal of the show is to "to make a version of Spider-Man that no-one had ever seen before."

"Same character, different universe," Uziel tells Empire. "It's a different flavor of that character, even though it's still [Nicolas Cage's] voice. It's not a continuation of Into The Spider-Verse. Once [Phil Lord] and [Christopher Miller] introduced the idea of the multiverse, I think you're allowed to take things and make them your own."

Ever since the first trailers revealed that the secret identity of Spider-Noir in the show was revealed as Ben Reilly, fans have wondered how the its version of Spider-Man Noir differs from the Peter Parker version in Into the Spider-Verse, as both are played by Nicolas Cage. As it turns out, they're essentially two different versions of the same Spider-Man variant - something easily made possible by the tangled web of the Spider-Verse.

Along with having different secret identities, the Spider-Noir of the show has a somewhat different personality from the comically hardboiled Spider-Verse version. Cage himself has likened his madcap live action performance as the new Spider-Man Noir to Bugs Bunny and Humphrey Bogart - quite a gamut indeed.

Spider-Noir will release May 25 on MGM+, arriving on Prime Video just two days later on May 27. For more, check out our list of the best Spider-Man movies, and stay up to date on all the upcoming Marvel movies and shows that are currently in the works.
