This year’s edition of the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers is hotly-contested, drawing in 2,400 applicants from all over the world. Alas, not every one can be a winner. By the time the semi-finals rolled around at the height of Paris Fashion Week, just 20 young fashion houses were left in the running, spanning 17 countries, including (for the first time) Georgia, Kenya and Thailand.
On March 4, these contestants came together for a star-studded cocktail reception and showroom, where we got to learn more about them and their collections. Attended by the likes of Anya Taylor-Joy, Pharrell Williams, Future, and Renee Rapp, the event was hosted by the French businesswoman and director of LVMH Delphine Arnault, at La Samaritaine, in the heart of the French capital.

“Their collections span contemporary elegance, bold designs and even one-of-a-kind pieces,” said Arnault of the 20 semi-finalists, ahead of the event. “Craftsmanship and research into materials lie at the heart of their creations.”
You probably don’t need reminding, but just in case, these “remarkable talents” are competing for one of the most esteemed prizes of its kind, with a €400,000 endowment to its name. The eventual winner will also claim a one-year bespoke mentorship by LVMH. Previous winners include Hodakova, Nensi Dojaka, and Soshi Otsuki.
First, though, brands had to run the gauntlet of the semi-final, with eight selected by the LVMH Prize committee of experts, featuring more than 80 fashion industry specialists. Until March 8, the general public also has the opportunity to take a look at what each designer has to offer, and vote for their favourite via the LVMH Prize website.
