Subscribe to our newsletterNothing could have prepared humble tech analyst Grace Ashcroft for the unreasonable amount of infected blood she'd encounter throughout Resident Evil Requiem, but you'd think her voice and motion capture actor Angela Sant'Albano would know what to expect. Well, she does, but it didn't stop her from jumping straight into the atmosphere during a recent gaming session where she and little Emily's actor Emma Rose Creaner both played just 15 minutes of Capcom's latest ordeal.
"Spooked… and we only played 15 mins!!!" Sant'Albano writes in an Instagram caption accompanying a video of her experiencing Resident Evil Requiem at the Red Bull Gaming Sphere in London. The camera is fixed on Sant'Albano's horrified face as Requiem is inflicted upon her, and she nearly flings her controller through the ceiling.

"AHHH! SHIT!" she screams, then proceeds to issue out a couple other squeaks and expressions of undiluted terror. Someone gently puts their hands on Sant'Albano's shoulders as she plays at one point, and she swings around in fear like there's a Licker dripping saliva on her shirt.

Two things in the actor's defense: one, she's spent a lot of production time channeling Grace Ashcroft in her soul, so it's natural for Sant'Albano to keep experiencing some of the protagonist's habitual shaky breathing and wondering, "What the fuck?" Two: I don't know if you realize this, but Resident Evil Requiem is so freaky, even Resident Evil 2 director Hideki Kamiya demands "a 'non-scary' mode." Let Grace live.
Resident Evil Requiem's secret hero is the "damsel in distress" that redefines the trope – and continues the franchise's mutated definition of girlhood.
