Robert Pattinson has spoken about the ambient music that he created while filming The Batman, and which remains unreleased.

The Twilight star played the DC superhero in Matt Reeves’ 2022 blockbuster, and as he revealed at the time of the film’s release, he spent some of his time during the film’s production working on a batch of his own music.

Now, he has reflected on that period in an interview with GQ, where he was asked about his decision to use his down time to focus on his unheard musical endeavours.

“During Batman, I made tons and tons of ambient electronic music,” he said. “I was in a tent the whole time, basically, whenever I was on a break on Batman, and I’ve got my headphones over the bat ears and I’m making electronic music on MPC with my vape, done up like Batman.”

The actor also revealed one of his current music obsessions in the interview. “You know who I really love? I was extremely late to this: 100 Gecs,” he said, referring to the experimental hyperpop duo from St. Louis.

When Pattinson first disclosed details of the ambient music, he explained that it was a result of living in a “bubble within a bubble” during the long shoot, which took place just outside of London.

NME gave the film a four-star review, noting: “Director Matt Reeves has mixed up gritty mob drama with film-noir detective thriller – and thanks to Dano’s ultra-creepy villain, some psychological horror too. Most of the time it comes off brilliantly. Pattinson plays him with a dour fanaticism that only occasionally topples over into parody (“I’m vengeance” could’ve come straight from the script of The LEGO Batman Movie).”

“Slighter than Bale and Affleck, Pattinson’s Batman moves more slowly and deliberately than his predecessors. It’s as though he’s permanently punch-drunk, dazed from months of getting the shit kicked out of him every night.”

The shoot for the sequel is set to begin in the spring, with a scheduled released date of October 1, 2027. Earlier this month, it was reported that Sebastian Stan was in talks to join the cast, while it has already been announced that Scarlett Johansson will be joining Pattinson in the film.

It is set to be a big year for Pattinson, who will be playing Antinous in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, and will also be in Dune: Part Three, as well as The Drama, a romantic comedy also starring Zendaya.
