Mario Day is here, and Turtle Beach is taking advantage of today in the most opportune way possible by adorning one of the best Nintendo Switch 2 headsets with a new Mario look.

Today of all days, the accessories brand has announced it's releasing a new version of the Turtle Beach Airlite Fit wired headset, swapping its black, blue, and red color palette for a new 'Mario Star' design which includes a translucent black and red color combo. The best part is undoubtedly the inclusion of Mario on the earcups, who's sporting that iconic and classic Yōichi Kotabe art style.

Despite its swanky new looks, the headset is sticking to its budget $27.99 / £19.99 price tag, and is available to pre-order now on the official Turtle Beach US and UK online stores. Better yet, you don't have to wait long for it to arrive, as it's set to launch on March 30, 2026, alongside a brand-new Mario and Luigi controller.

The upcoming Mairo Star Airlite Fit wired gaming headset might just be one of my favorite versions of the cups I've seen yet. It's hard to outdo the nostalgia-fueled look of the Ghost Purple Airlite Fit in my 90s kid eyes. Yet, I can't help but be a fan of the fact that Turtle Beach has also equipped this incoming Mario version with a translucent plastic chassis, which gives it a retro appeal despite being so new it isn't even out yet.

Under the hood, it's the same old headset as before. It's still sporting those 40mm audio drivers, jersey-knit-covered ear cushions, and a flip-to-mute noise-canceling microphone. I reviewed the pair in September last year, and I was pretty impressed with its sound despite its low price. However, it's definitely one I'd recommend for the younger Nintendo fans in your life, rather than those invested in finding the best gaming headset out there.

The microphone isn't ideal, and the headset feels a little cheap when popping on your head, so older fans might prefer saving up for an alternative like the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3 Wireless. Yet, if you've got a tight budget to deal with after investing in a Switch 2 and just want a pair for gaming on the go, it's still an ideal pickup, especially as the original is prone to discounts.

To keep the Mario Day celebrations going, Turtle Beach is also launching a new Mario and Luigi Switch 2 controller, with the Mario & Luigi Rematch Wireless RGB Gaming Controller. It's essentially a re-skin of the brand's Rematch pad, featuring swanky TMR sticks, motion controls, and wireless connectivity that works up to 30 feet, and that new 'c' button to unlock quick access to Game Chat.

Of course, as it's Mario Day, the focus is more on its flashy design, which features Mario and Luigi with crossed arms on either grip. At a glance, it's pretty plain-looking, with just a blue background and matching blue face buttons; however, the RGB element is what brings it altogether. When lit up and ready to go, a sea of rainbow Mario items glows across the pad and illuminates the controller. I kinda wish the headset did the same thing, but that'd likely affect its budget-friendly status, and I don't fancy seeing more inflated prices in this day and age.

The Mario and Luigi Rematch Wireless RGB gaming controller is available to pre-order for $64.99 (Turtle Beach) and £54.99 in the UK and is set to launch on March 30, the same day as the new Mario Star Airlite Fit headset. You still have a few days to wait before they'll arrive at your door, but you can check out our Mario Day Starter Pack for more super goodies you can grab quicker than you can say "yahoo!"

Ever since I first held a NES controller in my hand I've been obsessed with gaming, and the hardware it runs on. I could hook up a NES and SNES to a telly, without instructions, before I could walk. Even now, nothing is more exciting then taking a console, or handheld, out the box for the first time and setting it up. This obsession transformed into a love of games and game music, which lead to my music degree and dream of becoming the Scottish Nobuo Uematsu. After sharing my love of games through music, I began to share my love through words on sites like TechRadar and iMore. This lead to becoming a Hardware staff writer for PCGamesN, and later the Senior Tech Writer for Dexerto, covering all things Steam Deck, PlayStation and Nintendo. With that experience, I was able to level up as Hardware Editor for GamesRadar+, where I'm still just as Nintendo, PlayStation and gaming tech obsessed as ever.
