Nintendo knows we all want a new Nintendo Direct, but hopes have been somewhat dashed after it announced the release date for its next big game on social media and its news app.

People ask for a Nintendo Direct pretty much every week, but given that Nintendo hasn't held a traditional one yet this year, some assumed that we'd need to be getting one soon. This is mostly down to the fact that Pokemon Pokopia was the latest Switch 2 game with a date on the release calendar, with dates for Splatoon Raiders, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, and Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave unaccounted for.

The trailer shows the Yoshi clan discovering the titular Mysterious Book: Mr. E, who allows Yoshi to travel into his pages and discover different creatures. The trailer mainly focuses on a weird frog-like creature that can blow bubbles for Yoshi to ride in, with little notes appearing as the creature is interacted with. It apparently tastes bad, but feeding it different items will change how its bubbles work.

Notice how I've said "the creature" all this time? Well, that's because it's up to you to name it. You can take Mr. E's suggestion – which for the bubble blower is Glubbit – but Yoshi is allowed to name the creature. Nintendo didn't reveal how you do this, but barring a case of pre-selected words being used for the mechanic, I imagine you'll be seeing some very NSFW names hit the web within 10 minutes of the game's launch.
